Last post

This will be my last ever post on this blog as next year I won’t be able to keep this blog. This post will be about my highlights in grade five. Grade five was a great year.

My favourites was the grade five camp it was the best (school) camp I had ever been on. My favourite activitiy was abeselleing it was my first time ever to abeseil. When I got to the top of the Clift I wasn’t sure to go on or not but I went down and I enjoyed it and went down 2 more times.

My second highlight was the vessel excursion it was the best excursion I had been on apart from camp. It was my favourite because we got to build dancing robots but my friend and myself modified it to be a pipecleaner sword swing robot and we battled other robots we won.

These are just some of my highlights of grade five. Grade five was a great year. Especially when I had my best friends with me in my grade and got a really good teacher.

Here are some photos of the things I did in grade five.

Science question

This was a question a wanted the awnser to before I did the science unit this term. This was my question,  why is there no gravity in space.

The awnser was that there is gravity in space it is what holds the planets up and make them spin this type of gravity is very weak. This  microgravity is sometimes referred by space agencies as zero gravity which is very misleading. Gravity In space is created by almost very large object.  Gravity is measured in gs on earth the gravity is 1g on Jupiter the gravity is 2.4 times stronger than earths.

My second question was why do planets spin but that was already awnsered.

Yesterday we went to the Victorian space science education centre.

We learnt about static electricity in the first quarter and we played with theses magnetic wands that makes foil fly.

In the second quarter we made our own dancing robot with a simple electrical circuit which included a motor some clip wires and a battery. After we made them we gave them upgrades and battled them with other robots. My robot had plastic swords that were swung in circles by the motor which knocked other robots of the table.

In the second halve we went to put on some spacesuits and did a activity we split into two teams and I was in mission control. I had to make sure everything was ready for the launch and I had to make sure whenever there was an error I had to fix it as fast as I could. In the end 2 people died in the ship because of radiation.

Now it was my turn to be in the spaceship in there we did some science experiments and communicated with the command centre. My parter was Kevin and I did the cabbage acidity test. We made a mix out of red cabbage and put different things in the liquid and it changed colour.

It was the best excursion I had ever.

Here is a pictures of us in our spacesuits.

Solar system

A few days ago we made a scaled version of the solar system. We all made our own planets in groups and wrote a description  of the planet. My group did Neptune.

We didn’t complete the project because the sun which was about 2 meters in diameter we made all the parts (almost) but we didn’t get timetable make it to scale and when we did do it I was away.

A contraction is a shortened form of a word for example  don’t is a shorten form of do not. Normally when there is a contraction a apostrophe takes the place of the missing letters. A contraction is easier and quicker to write and say because it is one word instead of 2 or more.

Here is a list of all the contractions I could find, aren’t, can’t, couldn’t, doesn’t, don’t, hadn’t ,hasn’t, haven’t ,I’m, let’s , isn’t  , that’s , we’d , who’s , what’s, who’s , you’d , you’re, you’ve.

this is my sentance with as many contractions as possible.

Jeff who’s hasn’t done his homework so he wouldn’t go to school.

More leadership

This after noon we had another leadership talk with Shawn  the police man. He told us some  stories about him and how he came from a shy person to a leader.

He told us a story where he was at black Saturday and all the police officers didn’t know what to do and just stood there and he had to take charge.

In total he told us 3 stories about himself and how to become a leader. Some of the things he told us was people will follow your example if you do the right thing. He also told us that if you do the wrong thing people will not follow you ( don’t be hypocrite) He told us that if you are a leader you need to be fair to everybody and not yell at everyone you see.

The things that were similar with shawls talk and Mrs Montgomery’s talk was that they both said you had to listen to everyone in your team.

Today mrs Montgomery talked to all the student s in grade 5 to how to be a good leader.

Mrs Montgomery had 7 inportent points to be a good leader they were

Honesty: you need to be honest to be a leader or people won’t trust you.

Listening: you have to listen to others ideas and not only think about ourself.

Trust : you need to trust your friends or nothing will work out.

Stay strong: you need to stand up for yourself and let people know your opinion.

Sense of humour: you need to have humour and make things  fun and laugh with others not at them.

Team work: you need to work well with people in your team or you can’t be a leader if you don’t work well with others.

Focusing on what’s important: you need to know what’s more important  for example is playing your Xbox more important than your homework which is due tomorow.

These were all the points that mrs Montgomery gave us.

Soon this after noon a police man is coming to talk about leader ship in the community as well.
